Hi, I’m Logan.
I discovered 4clans on a saturday afternoon at the Game Lounge in Midwest City.
I think the thing that first attracted the game to me was the quirky fantasy art work on the box covers. The owner explained to me that it was a card game run by some local guys in Oklahoma and so I had to buy some product and try it out.
I bought the Dragons and the Unicats army decks and the Derpy DeLong Kill pre-con spell deck along with the Steal and Conjure pre-con spell
deck.
I really only picked those warrior decks so my wife would be more willing to
play with me (she likes cats and dragons).
What I discovered when I sat down with my wife to play was a completely fresh set of rules and ideas, unlike any game I had ever seen. The idea of running your opponent out of warriors rather than running down your opponent’s life points is more akin to a true war of attrition.
The idea of playing out each turn together, casting spells one at a time, and then getting out a calculator at the end to see who wins?
It was just a fresh experience for me.
I have been playing Magic the Gathering since summer of 2013, and I am still an avid player today. I usually don’t branch out much into other card games because too many of them seem like poor imitations or weird twists on the WotC masterpiece of Magic.
However 4 Clans doesn’t care about any of those conventions.
The art work is chaotic, the art styles clash and some cards aren’t even in full color yet.
A lot of the names and characters are just completely random made-up creatures and some of the abilities on the cards just break the rules of the game, like the creators truly grasp that they can do whatever they want!
All of that adds charm to the game, the rule-breaking cards adding chaos and fun, and the core mechanics and design make The 4 Clans a unique and rewarding experience.
After playing my first game, I reached out to the makers of the game. I sent an email with the subject “4clans is great!” and thats when I got to know Evan Sprinkle, President of Scrapper Games.
I have now read through every card in the game at least half a dozen times, vented my ideas to Evan and ended many conversations by excitedly crafting new spell deck ideas and trying to push the limits of the game. I think some of the cards in the game, like The Collector and The Living Death, are extremely powerful (maybe even the best cards in the game) despite Evan disagreeing. I even crafted a deck that can potentially win in 2 turns, to which Evan crafted probably the most diabolical spell deck built entirely to counter my new combo deck.
There’s a lot to explore in this game and I am looking forward to what new
mechanics come out in the future. Hopefully, I can be the first to break the game
and give the future competitive meta something to brew against.
